We had an absolutely brilliant day at Richard Durning’s Endowed Primary School recently, delivering our Bark Smart dog safety session to some truly fantastic pupils.
From start to finish, the children were engaged, curious, and full of thoughtful questions about how to stay safe around dogs. It’s always amazing to see young people showing such care and respect, and they certainly did just that.

A Visit from Nala the Therapy Dog
One of the highlights of the session was the chance to meet Nala, a gentle and well-trained therapy dog. She came along with her handler, Rebecca, who helped us show the children what safe and respectful interaction with a dog really looks like.
The excitement on the children’s faces when Nala entered the room was unforgettable! She brought the session to life in a way no slideshow or video ever could.

Kind Words from Headteacher Rebecca Whitfield
We were really touched to receive this lovely feedback from Rebecca Whitfield, the school’s headteacher:
“It was a real pleasure to see the children so engaged and thoughtful during today’s session on being safe around dogs. Meeting a real therapy dog brought the learning to life in such a memorable way. The children asked insightful questions and showed great respect and care — valuable lessons they’ll carry with them beyond the classroom. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this such a positive and enriching experience.”
It’s feedback like this that keeps us inspired to reach even more schools.
A Big Well Done to the Pupils
Every single pupil took part with enthusiasm, and it was clear they took the session seriously while also having lots of fun. They learned how to spot signs a dog might want space, the right way to approach (or not approach!) a dog, and why boundaries are so important when it comes to canine companions.
These are simple lessons, but they can make a huge difference, for children, for dogs, and for the whole community.
